In a New York park, Fritz (voiced by Skip Hinnant) and his friend plan to pick up three girls across the way. So, Fritz lies to the girls, claiming he has a soul in need of redemption, and invites them to "seek the truth." The fugitive hides in the bathroom, and when the pig police rush in, the bathroom pipes burst, washing everyone away. Fritz returns to his dorm room, but his roommate ignores his presence. He decides to leave and sets everything on fire, reducing it all to ashes. The flames spread throughout the dorm, burning the entire building down... The film is adapted from Robert Crumb's comic of the same name and was the first animated film in the United States to receive an X rating. It follows an anthropomorphic cat in mid-1960s New York City, exploring themes of hedonism, socio-political awareness, race relations, the free love movement, and left-wing and right-wing politics.
