On August 22, 1945, one week after the end of World War II, three ships carrying repatriates from Karafuto (Sakhalin) bound for Otaru Port were attacked and sunk by an unidentified submarine off the coast, resulting in approximately 1,700 deaths. This feature-length documentary animation takes its subject from the "Three Ships Tragedy." The runtime is approximately 68 minutes. The original story, screenplay, and direction are by veteran filmmaker Koji Chino, who originally worked in live-action film. The animation director is Tatsuo Yanagino, known for his work on *Lupin the Third: The Legend of the Gold of Babylon*, among others. The narration for the main feature is provided by Hisaya Morishige.
