Everyone on the street outside the window is carrying objects—why do they run with everything they own? This observation leads the author to reflect on the meaning of life defined by material possessions. Reality and imagination transition through brief cuts of sepia-toned imagery, with particular emphasis on symbolic scenes magnified for effect. Through the constraining relationship between people and objects, the movements of daily life are portrayed as laborious, monotonous, and hopeless. In the end, one sorrowfully yet comfortingly realizes they are no different from anyone else.
