One hundred years ago, the desert city of "Desert City" suffered immense damage due to a battle between Pokémon, which began because of the existence of a certain Pokémon. However, this Pokémon was sealed away by someone, and now Desert City has returned to its former peace. During their journey, Satoshi and Pikachu encounter the Mythical Pokémon Hoopa, who possesses the ability to "take out anything from its rings," and the girl who cares for it, "Mareille." Mischievous Hoopa enjoys startling people by pulling out its favorite donuts and various other items from those mysterious rings. Fond of pranks yet innocent, Hoopa affectionately calls Satoshi and Pikachu "Satchi" and "Pika," quickly becoming close friends with them. Hoopa, Satoshi, and the others decide to travel together. Upon arriving in Desert City, Satoshi and his friends meet Mareille's brother, Baraz. However, Baraz seems to be acting strangely. When Satoshi and the others take a closer look, they see that he is holding the "Prison Bottle," said to seal away the Pokémon that once destroyed Desert City. An ominous aura emanates from the bottle—it seems the seal of the Prison Bottle has been broken after a long passage of time! At that moment, Legendary Pokémon with the same aura appear! Primal Groudon, Primal Kyogre, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, and even Kyurem emerge. If this continues, Desert City will be in danger. To protect Desert City, Hoopa uses its rings to "summon" new Legendary Pokémon. Can Satoshi and the others, together with the Legendary Pokémon summoned by Hoopa, protect Desert City? And what exactly is this evil force? Legend versus legend—now, the most intense battle in history is about to begin!
