"Orgesticulanismus" is a 2D animated short film by Mathieu Labaye, dedicated to his father Benoît Labaye, who passed away due to a debilitating illness. It can be said that this film pushes the freedom of 2D animation to its limits.
The beginning of the film is somewhat somber, depicting movements he could no longer perform. However, midway through, the creator's emotions burst forth in an exceptionally brilliant and captivating display, with infinite variations that stir the heart. Then, the person restrained by strings, repeating the same motions day after day, represents actions everyone in real life can perform. Yet, this is not enough for us—we need to break free from those strings. This leads to the scene of rising from the chair only to fall, which then evolves into a grand, unrestrained dance.
Next comes death, and after death, the self dissolves into various elements that continue to move within the world. This is what the disabled creator yearns for. Through the animation, one can see the creator's intense desire to break free from the chair, to break free from the strings, and to dance wildly. Even after death, he seeks to evolve freely.
A personal stream-of-consciousness interpretation:
Ordinary yet stifling life --> Restraint --> Struggle --> Struggle to the limit --> Breaking free --> Freedom --> Freedom to become anyone, do anything --> Freedom to transcend physical form --> Freedom to shed the constraints of the flesh, becoming bones --> Freedom to transcend the limitations of "humanity," transforming from bones into any substance --> Returning to the ultimate state of primal nature --> Tranquility --> Tranquil thought and sensation --> ...
