Eikichi Onizuka is a former biker gang member who decides to interview to become a substitute teacher in order to get close to high school girls. The dean, Uchiyamada, believes he is unfit to be a teacher and is only interested in high school girls, so he has no intention of hiring him. Soon after, two students come looking for Uchiyamada to settle a score. Uchiyamada tells Onizuka that if he can subdue those two troublemakers, he will let him become a teacher. However, Onizuka is dissatisfied with Uchiyamada's attitude toward the students and instead explains his own philosophy to the school principal. The principal also feels that the school has many problems that require someone like Onizuka to solve. Through this twist of fate, Onizuka's dream unexpectedly comes true. But as a teacher, he faces rejection from both the school staff and students, often coming close to being fired. Yet, each time, he manages to turn the situation around with his unique teaching methods—sometimes using force to counter violence, sometimes deliberately letting things slide. In short, starting from the principle of "caring for students and putting them first in everything," he tailors his approach to each student's needs, eventually winning over a group of problem students completely and leaving the teachers who tried everything to drive him away with nothing more to say...
