The anime "GR -GIANT ROBO-" is a new adaptation of the original work "GIANT ROBO (Iron Man)" by the highly acclaimed teacher Mitsuteru Yokoyama, renowned in the tokusatsu and super robot genre. The protagonist remains Daisaku Kusama, and the design of the super robot retains its original concept, but significant adjustments will be made to the characters and worldview.
"GIANT ROBO (Iron Man)" was created in 1967 as a manga by Mitsuteru Yokoyama. It was later adapted into a tokusatsu series, pioneering the era of giant robot fever. In 1992, the work was brought to the animation stage with "GIANT ROBO: The Day the Earth Stood Still," which received high praise both domestically and internationally. The year 2007 marks the 40th anniversary of "GIANT ROBO," and producing a new version of the series is indeed the best way to commemorate this great work that has influenced generations. The script for the new version is once again overseen by Yasuhiro Imagawa, the director of "GIANT ROBO: The Day the Earth Stood Still," but the production team for the anime adaptation will undergo major changes.
