At the bottom of the wolf pack, a young black wolf avoids confrontation and seeks to profit from the labor of others. This behavior, coupled with his increasing popularity among the she-wolves, greatly irritates the alphas of his pack. Coming of age, he fights for survival in his own cowardly manner, losing all of his family along the way. Lured by some young females, he finds a place in a new wolf pack and endures the dominance of a new alpha male. Only in his later years does the black wolf rise to the occasion to defend more than just himself. This is the story of a wolf trying to become a wolf.
