Robin Li, Chairman and CEO of Baidu, has made a high-profile entry into the film industry, investing $40 million to produce the animated film "KONG the Origin." This animated feature will be created by a renowned production team from both domestic and international backgrounds, with the director likely to be a famous Hollywood name.
According to reports, Li Yanhong will establish Aquamen Entertainment in Los Angeles, USA. Upon its establishment, the first project will be the big-budget animated film "KONG the Origin," with a production cost of $40 million.
The animated film will utilize 3D and CGI technology, primarily depicting the birth process of Sun Wukong. Unlike previous film and television works related to "Journey to the West," "KONG the Origin" will incorporate sci-fi elements such as aliens and robots.
The film will be managed by a Chinese producer surnamed Zhang (Gary Zhang) and South Korean director Jeong-Jung Kim, with the possibility of inviting a Hollywood director to helm the project. Aquamen Entertainment plans to announce the director of "KONG the Origin" at the Cannes Film Festival in May.
American media stated: "Animated films have long been a weak spot in China's film industry." However, "the continuously developing animation production technology may bring breakthrough improvements to box office performance."
