In a gloomy, melancholic town, an atmosphere of decadent ruin and death hangs in the air. A man lies drunk on the street, while women queue in long lines to receive rations—their faces uniformly blank with indifference.
An old man sits dazedly on a tin roof, his body gradually sliding toward the edge until he slips completely over, his hands desperately gripping the rain gutter, teetering on the brink of disaster. People who notice the scene look up and watch, while police, doctors, firefighters, and funeral workers also arrive upon hearing the commotion. These people do not seem intent on saving the old man; they merely wait, anticipating the moment he will fall.
Time passes bit by bit, yet the old man still does not fall...
This film won the 2000 Czech Critics Award for Best Animated Short Film.
