Fred Jones, Daphne Blake, Velma Dinkley, Shaggy Rogers, and Scooby-Doo are a team of teenage mystery solvers living in the small town of Crystal Cove, the self-proclaimed "Most Hauntedest Place on Earth." The town's allegedly "cursed" history, filled with strange disappearances and sightings of ghosts and monsters, fuels its thriving tourist industry. Consequently, the town's adults—most notably Fred's father, Mayor Fred Jones Sr., and Sheriff Bronson Stone—are displeased that the kids keep debunking the supernatural phenomena, revealing them as the elaborate schemes of charlatans and criminals that generate significant revenue. Beyond their usual case-solving, the team finds themselves drawn into uncovering a dark secret buried in Crystal Cove's past. Guided by cryptic clues from a faceless mystery man known only as "Mr. E." (a play on "mystery"), the gang delves into the legend of a cursed Conquistador treasure, the hidden history of the town's founding Darrow Family, and the mysterious, unsolved disappearance of four mystery-solving youths and their pet bird—the original Mystery Incorporated. However, solving this mystery is complicated by romantic entanglements that threaten to pull the team apart: Shaggy struggles to balance his new romance with Velma against his long-standing friendship with Scooby, while Daphne yearns for the trap-obsessed Fred, who remains obliviously unaware that he shares her feelings.
