After the sudden death of her parents, the lonely girl Mary is taken in by her uncle Archibald and brought to the Craven family mansion. There, she discovers a walled garden but is told it is forbidden to enter. Unable to resist temptation, Mary becomes intensely curious about it. Later, with the help of a red robin, she manages to find the key to the forbidden garden's entrance. Upon opening the door and entering, she finds the place in ruins, but this inspires her to revive the secret garden—once tended by Archibald's late wife (Mary's aunt)—now abandoned and overgrown. Not long after she begins her efforts, she meets Colin, Archibald's son, who has closed off his heart and given up on everything. Mary starts using her sincerity to heal the hearts of those living in the mansion.
