This film is the eighth original animated feature in the DC Universe Animated Original Movies series, released by Warner Premiere and Warner Bros. Animation on July 27, 2010. It is adapted from the DC Comics storylines "Batman: Under the Hood" and "Batman: A Death in the Family." The screenplay was written by Judd Winick, who is also the original writer of "Batman: Under the Hood."
Five years ago, in a warehouse in Sarajevo, the Joker murdered Batman's partner, the second Robin, Jason Todd, and Batman failed to save the young man's life. Five years later, a mysterious man calling himself the Red Hood suddenly appears in Gotham City. On one hand, he aggressively suppresses Black Mask's criminal empire, while on the other, he becomes the protector of numerous drug lords. No one knows who he really is, and no one has seen his true face. All of this draws the attention of Batman and Nightwing. After repeated direct confrontations with the Red Hood, Batman uncovers an unbelievable secret. What exactly is happening in Gotham City, and what conspiracy lies hidden behind it all?
The Special Edition and Blu-ray releases of this animated film also include an animated short featuring the DC superhero Jonah Hex.
