In a harbor town where autumn leaves flutter, a lonely penguin wanders the empty streets. Hungry and with no one to rely on, it aimlessly finds its way into a little boy's home. The penguin seems quite interested in the boy's radio, while the boy is at a loss, eventually taking it to the lost and found office. However, no one has reported a missing penguin. The little penguin becomes a burden to the boy, and after several twists and turns, the boy learns that penguins are native to the South Pole. Thus, he builds a small wooden boat and sets off on a journey home to the South Pole with the little penguin...
This film was adapted by the renowned British animation studio AKA from the picture book of the same name by acclaimed author Oliver Jeffer. It was broadcast on Channel 4 in the UK during Christmas. The film won the Best Film award at the 2009 British Academy Children's Awards and the Best Animated Film award from the Children's Jury at the 2009 Chicago International Children's Film Festival.
