At the 2006 Angoulême International Comics Festival, Marguerite Abouet won the Best First Comic Book Award for "Aya de Yopougon," which later became her representative work—an adult comic depicting the lives of ordinary people in Africa. This year, we are fortunate to witness the release of the animated film "Aya de Yopougon," co-directed by Marguerite and her husband. Born in Côte d'Ivoire, Africa, Marguerite naturally holds deep affection for this land of the Ivory Coast. Realistic films like this, which portray countries unfamiliar to us, are the ones we should hold onto tightly, as they are not only animations but also documentaries, bringing us the unique charm of distant lands.
