The concept of "I Am the King of Competition in Ancient Times" draws inspiration from the prehistoric societal landscape revealed by the Huangshan archaeological site. In the anime, the protagonist, due to his "lying flat" attitude, unexpectedly becomes immune to the effects of the "Meng Po Soup" and is reborn into a primitive tribe 7,000 years ago, carrying the mindset of a modern-day "slacker." To help his tribe "lie flat" more comfortably, he is forced to use fragmented modern knowledge—from drilling wood for fire to building houses, from domesticating crops to inventing tools—to spark a "civilization competition" movement. However, when he encounters a "transmigrated competition king and academic genius" who pursues extreme efficiency, their ultimate showdown over "what civilization should be built for" becomes an alternative interpretation of the survival wisdom of the ancient inhabitants of the Huangshan site: Is the driving force of civilization progress about meeting survival needs, or is it about chasing efficiency above all else?
