Maruko meets a boy named Jim from Australia. Jim, who loves stars, teaches her about the Southern Cross. The Southern Cross that appears in "Night on the Galactic Railroad," the Southern Cross that served as a guide for ocean adventurers in an age without maps. The more she learns, the stronger her longing grows, but she becomes dejected upon learning it cannot be seen from Japan. 　Then comes the day of farewell. "The stars visible from the southern and northern hemispheres are different, but the Milky Way connects them. So look at the stars in the night sky." "Yeah, I'll definitely look!" The two make a promise.
