A variation of the traditional Kabuki tale, recounting the tragic love between the monk Ansei and Kiyohime. Ichikawa reimagines Ansei as a bell-maker, with Kiyohime offering herself as a sacrifice to forge the bell for a new temple, ensuring that no one but Ansei can make it ring. Whenever Ansei strikes the bell, Kiyohime’s spirit emerges from within, dancing gracefully.
