Following the betrayal of Gene Khan, Tony Stark as Iron Man must search for the five newly revealed Makluan Rings. Meanwhile, he's got to search for his father, Howard Stark, who was revealed to not be dead. To aid in his quest, he'll have the help of his friends Pepper Potts and James Rhodes, who uses the War Machine Armor to help Iron Man in the field. After his armor is destroyed, he'll need the help of Yinsen, who built the reactor in Tony's chest, to heal his once again damaged heart and build the Iron Man Armor Mark II. He'll have to contend with returning foes Mr. Fix, Whiplash, Blizzard, and especially Mandarin. Also, Tony turns seventeen meaning he has one year before he can take over Stark International, but not if Obadiah Stane has his way. To aid him, Stane hires the Ghost to steal the Iron Man armor and find out who Iron Man really is.
