At the beginning (first 2 minutes), the viewer sees Soviet newsreel footage from the 1920s. Then a newspaper with large headlines is shown: Sensation of the Century! Growth Rays! Professor Persikov's Sensational Experiments! Heat Rays Accelerate Insect Growth!
Next on screen: NEWS from ABROAD. B. von Frankenstein: Professor Persikov has made a great discovery! Count Dracula: I drink to the health of the Russian genius! Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde: This is a nightmarish discovery—a threat to world civilization! Engineer Garin: The inventor of the hyperboloid doubts the possibility of increasing the growth of living organisms. Engineer Los receives unknown signals from space: Aelita! Comrade Rokk, director of the "Red Eggs" poultry farm: The harmful virus that caused the chicken plague will be found.
And in the city—it's summer. On the street, there are photographers and a cameraman in a car labeled "Kino-Eye." They are filming Professor Vladimir Persikov in the window of his laboratory. Onlookers ask for autographs. Rokk pushes his way to the window: "I am the director of a poultry farm. I have a paper for your apparatus. I obtained the best imported eggs for experiments. With your ray, we will revolutionize animal husbandry." "I work exclusively with insects," replies the professor and closes the window. He turns on the apparatus, but the house shakes. "No, it is decidedly impossible to work peacefully here!" exclaims the scientist. Before him stands a stranger in galoshes: "I completely agree with you. We will provide you with complete sterility and secrecy. Your ray deserves more! We will transfer the experiments to humans and create a race of Atlanteans who will rule the world! Heil!" The professor shouts: "Get out!" And new guards are already arriving at the house: Comrade Zinaida, Comrade Zhuk, and a squad of soldiers with machine guns. The stunned professor packs up the apparatus and goes out into the yard, where Rokk is already waiting with a truck. "To the dacha," commands the professor, and Rokk places the apparatus in the truck bed. From the jostling during the journey, the apparatus turns on and irradiates the chicken eggs in the truck bed. At the dacha, Persikov gets out, while Rokk drives on and sees that chickens are already hatching from the eggs and growing right before his eyes. Rokk grabs a rooster by the leg, but the flock flies away into the distance.
And at the dacha, the professor turns on the television: "Let's see what's new abroad?" and sees on the screen. Professor Dowell: "One head is good, but two are better!" Dr. Griffin (The Invisible Man): "The main thing is to stop in time!" Fantômas: "Fantômas returns!" "They're showing nonsense again," sighs the professor and turns off the KVN-TV. And the spy in galoshes is already behind his back, stealing the apparatus and accidentally touching the settings—now it's impossible to turn off. Zinaida and Zhuk, arriving just in time, save Persikov, but the spy has already left on a motorcycle and irradiates all the insects along the way. Zinaida, Zhuk, and the professor chase after him in a car and see giant insects. Comrade Zhuk goes to the city with a message about the danger, while Zinaida follows the professor. She finds him considerably rejuvenated—Persikov himself explains that he was bitten by a mosquito (an allusion to Alexander Bogdanov's work "Red Star"). Ants have captured the spy with the apparatus and are dragging him to their anthill. The professor directs the ants along a false path into a swamp, where they drown along with the apparatus (the spy swims away). And all around are huge insects laying many eggs. Soon, numerous insects attack the city. People fight on the ground and in the air. They fire machine guns, cannons, and tanks. Pilots drop boxes of DDT (insecticide) and shoot down giant butterflies and other winged insects in the air. But there are too many insects; they keep growing and break into the city. And suddenly, the chitinous shells of the largest insects begin to break down and crumble, unable to bear the weight of the giants. The people are saved! Zinaida and the rejuvenated professor want to get married.
Top Secret: "It's too early to put a period. Proceed with the execution of the task to take control of the cloning experiments. Helicopter dispatched. Center."
