"The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists!" is a 2012 British-American 3D stop-motion animated adventure comedy film, jointly produced by Aardman Animations and Sony Pictures Animation. The film is Aardman's first 3D animated feature and Sony's first stop-motion clay animation. Directed by British directors Peter Lord and Jeff Newitt, it was distributed by Columbia Pictures. The film was released in the United Kingdom on March 28, 2012, and in the United States on April 27. The voice cast includes Hugh Grant, Martin Freeman, David Tennant, Salma Hayek, and Imelda Staunton. The film is adapted from the first two books of the pirate series (The Pirates!) by British author Gideon Defoe.
