Ekimu's body was laid to rest in a tomb by the Protectors, whose descendants safeguarded the island and hid the masks worn by the Toa until the island was invaded by Skull Spiders. They then gathered and recited the Hero's Prophecy, summoning Tahu, Kopaka, Lewa, Gali, Pohatu, and Onua to the island, before leading them to find their Golden Masks of Power. The Toa then united to defeat the Lord of Skull Spiders, before entering the City of the Mask Makers to seek and revive Ekimu. After facing Skull Warriors, Skull Slicers, and Skull Scorpios, the Toa awakened Ekimu, who then had to face the evil Skull Skull Grinder and Skull Grinder Kulta, who had stolen Ekimu's Mask of Creation. Although Kulta overwhelmed the Toa, their efforts bought Ekimu the time needed to rebuild his mighty hammer, which he used to defeat Kulta; the city was then made safe for the Okotans to inhabit.
