Born with a natural charm, the scholar Tian Sheng seeks refuge with his uncle, preparing for the upcoming provincial examination the following year. During an outing, he encounters a beautiful young woman and falls in love at first sight, yet he is too shy to confess his feelings and plans to send a matchmaker to propose marriage. However, both he and the woman's father are conscripted to work on the construction of a canal.
