The protagonist of this surrealist short film is a man obsessed with control. In an automated world drained of all emotion, he is tormented by vague desires. Can he transcend his obsessions and fears?
This film was commercially released in Canada as the opening feature for David Cronenberg's movie "Crash."
Welch has stated that one of the original influences for this film was Arnold Böcklin's painting "Isle of the Dead," as well as Norman McLaren's 1946 National Film Board of Canada animated short "A Little Phantasy on a 19th-century Painting."
This work has won numerous awards, including the Special Prize at the Hiroshima International Animation Festival, the Best International Animation Award at the Jerusalem International Film Festival, the Special Design Award at the Zagreb World Festival of Animated Films, the Best Animated Film Award at the Dresden Film Festival, the Sparkasse Award at the Leipzig International Festival for Documentary and Animated Film, and the Gold Hugo for Animation at the Chicago International Film Festival.
