This work interprets Scene 18 of the opera "La Damnation de Faust" by French composer Hector Berlioz. The piece is essentially a dramatic legend, masterfully blending vocal and instrumental music with drama and orchestration. Performed by the Boston Symphony Orchestra, it depicts Faust's pursuit of youth and love under the temptation of the devil Mephistopheles, his romance with the maiden Marguerite, and his ultimate descent into the abyss of hell. It was ranked 42nd in the "Century of Animation · 100 Works" selection at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival in June 2006.
