Les Shadoks is the signature work of the French AAA Studio. Jacques Rouxel, one of the founders of AAA, discovered the "animagraphe" while working in the research and development department of a television station. This machine was both bulky and difficult to use, and no one wanted to touch it. Jacques Rouxel happily conducted extensive experiments on it. In 1968, during the peak of the French social movements, he launched Les Shadoks. These silly birds instantly became unforgettable cartoon characters for the French middle-aged generation.
Les Shadoks are a group of eccentric birds with nonsensical behavior. Their Shadokian logic is hilariously absurd. The Les Shadoks animated series consists of two-minute TV shorts, with three seasons released in 1968, 1970, and 1974, each containing 52 episodes. In 1999, the Shadok family returned to the screen with a fourth season, created by Jacques Rouxel in collaboration with Laurent Bounoure, once again evoking fond memories for many in the French middle-aged generation.
In November 2006, TF1 released the "Les Shadoks (Edition Integrale)" 5-disc box set, which includes all four seasons and one bonus disc of extras.
