The 130-episode TV anime "ThunderCats," which first aired in 1985, was a US-Japan co-production, though it was not broadcast in Japan at the time. The Japanese animation company involved in its production, Topcraft, was actually the predecessor of Studio Ghibli. While many may not be familiar with this company, Topcraft, along with director Hayao Miyazaki and producer Isao Takahata, successfully released the theatrical film "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind," which became a classic in film history. This led to the financier of "Nausicaä," Tokuma Shoten, decisively restructuring Topcraft into Studio Ghibli, allowing us to enjoy the subsequent series of Ghibli films.

It is reported that Warner has purchased the script by newcomer writer Paul Sopocy and handed production to Spring Creek Productions. According to sources, the film's plot will focus on how Lion-O becomes the leader of the ThunderCats.
