In the same city as her mother lived a girl named Inge. She was very rude and disliked everyone. One day, her mother asked her to bring bread to her grandmother. Inge refused for a long time, but finally agreed on the condition that she could wear her new boots. As she walked along the path, she came across a large puddle blocking her way. Inge threw the bread into the puddle and stepped on it. After that, she fell into the puddle and ended up in the kingdom of the Bolotnitsa who lived there. The Bolotnitsa, angered by Inge's act, turned her into a bird.
