The Old Kitchen God retired due to diabetes, and the new Kitchen God, Shen, succeeded to the throne. Shen’s strict and harsh ways in handling affairs led to resentment among the people. Deprived of their faith, Shen lost all his divine power, causing the ancient ferocious beast sealed away to break free and wreak havoc in the mortal world. Shen descended to earth and, with the help of a young boy named Bajin and others, defeated the beast. Through this journey, he also came to understand what it truly means to be a compassionate and qualified deity who cares for the people.
