In the Beijing subway station, strangers stand on the platform waiting for the train to arrive. Aside from the broadcast announcements, almost no one speaks; everyone is immersed in their own world. Moments later, the train pulls into the station, and people file in, continuing whatever they were doing before. Some chat quietly, some doze off, some munch away heartily. Meanwhile, a slender young man takes out his iPod and loses himself in beautiful music. Suddenly, he spots a graceful, ethereally beautiful girl standing ahead. And the girl seems to notice his presence as well. Just then, the fluorescent lights in the carriage suddenly go out, followed by the carriage being violently severed in half by an immense external force.
