While Christ still walks the earth, questioning the Heavenly Father about when suffering will end, the self-proclaimed immortal Stalin has already arrived in heaven, waiting arrogantly for God to open the gates and welcome him. He is not alone—Hitler, Mussolini, and Churchill are all there, murmuring their personal regrets, yet showing little interest in the catastrophic World War II they themselves caused. Alexander Sokorov, with extraordinary skill, transforms historical imagery into what feels like a deepfake dark fairy tale. The love-hate entanglements of the 20th-century dictators flicker in and out of view amidst the clouds, while their vividly rendered ghosts resemble laughable clowns in an apocalyptic purgatorial dream. The only pity is that the joke falls upon countless innocent people, whose voices have long been drowned out in the haze of history.
