A feature-length animation by Kubal, one of the few masters of the Czech animation school not primarily known for stop-motion, adapted from Czech folklore. Rich in imagination, the plot is simple yet surreal, with theme music that ranges from beautifully melodious to eerily somber. Disney-style anthropomorphism is interwoven with elements of eroticism and cruelty. As the director himself comes from a comic book background, both the lines and colors reflect a typical European comic style—seemingly rough at first glance, but upon closer inspection, the artistic skill is remarkable: clean, fluid, pure, and vibrant, with powerful visual language. The entire film has no dialogue yet remains thoroughly engaging. Some segments employ highly artistic abstract forms with high brightness and contrast. Had it maintained this overall style, it would have been a dark classic. Unfortunately, Kubal, skilled in humorous animation, incorporated too many deliberately comedic scenes that disrupted the serious atmosphere, resulting in an awkward, incongruous hodgepodge.
