This is a feature-length version produced for theatrical release. However, it is by no means a re-edit of the television series. Only the opening two minutes reuse footage from the TV show, while the main story itself was completely remade from scratch. Osamu Tezuka himself was satisfied with the result, as it allowed him to fully incorporate thematic elements that could not be adequately explored within the constraints of the television format.
