Champion is a lonely child who lost his parents at a young age and spends his days with his grandmother, Madame Souza. The boy is somewhat introverted, preferring to talk to his dog Bruno and ride his bicycle alone. The songs of the Triplets of Belleville accompany them through their quiet life. Eventually, Madame Souza recognizes Champion's talent for cycling and decides to nurture it, accompanying him through relentless training day after day, rain or shine.
Finally, Champion qualifies to participate in the Tour de France. However, due to the mafia's interference to control the race's outcome, an accident occurs, and Champion, along with two other cyclists, is kidnapped and taken to Belleville. Madame Souza, undeterred, embarks on a rescue mission with Bruno aboard a rickety boat to save her grandson. Stranded on the unfamiliar streets of a foreign land, she encounters the Triplets of Belleville, and together they join forces to save little Champion.
This film has received high praise from audiences and earned two Oscar nominations for its unique animation style—Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song. It was also selected for the 2003 Cannes Film Festival.
