"Flooding Jinshan Temple" is a 52-episode domestic animated series based on one of China's four great folk legends, "The Legend of the White Snake." Jointly invested and produced by Nanjing Hongbao Film & Television Culture Company, Zhenjiang Radio and Television Bureau, and China Central Television (CCTV), the series will be helmed by CCTV animation director Chen Jiaqi as the chief director. All storyboarding work, including the pilot, will be completed under the supervision of executive director Gu Qing. Angel Animation Company has also joined the project for its mid-stage production.
The 52-episode large-scale animated series "Flooding Jinshan Temple," jointly produced by Zhenjiang Culture and Broadcasting Group, Zhenjiang Water Conservancy Investment Company, Nanjing Hongbao Film & Television Culture Co., Ltd., and Central Newsreel and Documentary Film Studio Group, will officially premiere on television on March 13. This marks the first time in China that the legend of the White Snake has been adapted into an animated series.
"Flooding Jinshan Temple" draws from "The Legend of the White Snake," one of China's four great mythological tales. As Zhenjiang is the origin of this legend, most of the series' scene designs are inspired by the city.
Unlike previous film and television adaptations, "Flooding Jinshan Temple" introduces a villainous character—the Frog-Faced Water Snake—who brings harm to the human world. This addition fills the storyline with conflicts between love and hatred, justice and evil, making it more suitable for young audiences. Another highlight is the focus on Xiaoqing as a main character, depicting her growth from not understanding "love" to gradually grasping its meaning, and from recklessness and impulsiveness to becoming clever and brave. This creates an animated work with realistic educational significance.
