It tells the story of Theodore Rimsbock (known as Reodor Felgen in the original version) and his two assistants: the enthusiastic and optimistic magpie Solan Gundersen and the somewhat melancholic and pessimistic hedgehog Ludvig. Theodore is a bicycle repairman who has invented many peculiar gadgets. One day, they discover that Theodore's former assistant, Rudolf Blodstrupmoen, has stolen his designs to build a new engine, becoming the world champion of Formula 1 racing. Solan secures funding from an Arab oil tycoon vacationing in Flåklypa, and the trio joins forces to build a new racing car, Il Tempo Gigante, to compete in the world Grand Prix.
This film was produced over three and a half years by a team of five. Directed by Ivo Caprino, with sets and cars created by Bjarne Sandemose (Caprino's most important collaborator), puppets made by Ingeborg Riiser, and costumes and sets by Gerd Alfsen. Upon its release in 1975, "Flåklypa Grand Prix" achieved sensational success in Norway, attracting one million viewers in its first year. Subsequently, the film was translated into 16 languages, an unprecedented achievement in Norwegian cinema history.
