This ancient Chinese tale of the wandering musician Mi unfolds during an era when China was ruled by cruel and greedy mandarins. A Mandarin appeared in the marketplace. He was carried in a palanquin by porters, accompanied by his guards. The common people fell to their knees and bowed to the ground. Only the musician Mi refused to bow and slipped away from the guards. He found refuge in a tea-house, and in gratitude, he played his flute and sang his songs for the ordinary people.
