Legend has it that when Nüwa mended the sky with the Seven-Colored Stone, fragments fell to the mortal realm and were obtained by the Yellow Emperor. The "Seven-Colored Stone" possessed extraordinary divine power, helping the Yellow Emperor defeat the evil Chi You and seal away his soul. To prevent the stone from falling into the hands of those with ill intentions in the future, the Yellow Emperor hid it in a secret location and crafted four treasures (the Golden Crossbow, the Ice Heart (initially obtained by Yuanbao), the Fire Diamond, and the Green Sprout) bestowed upon four individuals, commanding them to guard the stone for generations. These four and their descendants became known as the "Guardians."
The current guardian of the Golden Crossbow is Feihong's master. The master and disciple originally lived a peaceful, secluded life deep in the mountains until one night when Yuanbao suddenly attacked with assassins. The master handed Feihong a folding fan before disappearing amidst Yuanbao's artillery fire. After struggling to escape the pursuing assassins, Feihong followed the direction indicated by the fan and found another guardian—a talking panda and his treasure, the Green Sprout. From the panda, Feihong learned that the Golden Crossbow was his master's treasure. Just as they set out to find another guardian, Yuanbao's assassins and the Four Fiends caught up with them. Feihong defeated the assassins, but the panda was captured by the Four Fiends, and the Green Sprout fell into Yuanbao's hands.
