The American version of "Sengoku Majin Go-Shogun," featuring different storylines and music from the original, was once introduced to mainland China. In the year 2545, a teletransportation experiment gone wrong sends test pilot David Jance through the center of the galaxy and into another universe, where he becomes caught in a life-and-death struggle against the armies of GRIP, led by Dark Star. To defeat Dark Star, the allied forces combine to form Macron 1. Macron 1 was a flying space robot created when Beta Command, led by Dr. Chagall, merged its energy and weaponry with the Macstar, piloted by David Jance. Many characters, including the small robot An-D and the wookie-like first mate Nok, were essentially Star Wars ripoffs, as were parts of the storyline. In many ways, Macron 1 resembled Robotech, also suffering from odd time slots and poor scheduling. The theme song, "Relax," was provided by Frankie Goes To Hollywood. The show originally aired in Japan as "Sengoku Majin Go-Shogun" ("Demon-God of the War-Torn Land Shogun") in its first season (1981), and as "Aku Dai Sakusen Srungle" ("Great Military Operation in Subspace Srungle") from 1983-84. When dubbed and aired in America, contemporary Top-40 hits were added to the soundtrack.
