"Knowledge Elder" is a scientific fairy tale film. Through the portrayal of a knowledgeable elder, the film employs personification techniques to educate young people about loving science, loving labor, and dedicating themselves to communism. During the Cultural Revolution, this film was regarded as a typical example of "products of the black line in literature and art," with accusations that the Knowledge Elder was "the embodiment of bourgeois scholars" and a "Daoist of Emptiness" who possessed nothing. The film won the Best Popular Science Film Award at the 1963 Second "Popular Film" Hundred Flowers Awards.
