This is the first theatrical anime film for "DRAGON QUEST: The Adventure of Dai." It is also the first anime adaptation produced, preceding the television series. The story is an adaptation of the second one-shot manga, "Dai Explodes!!!", and is a parallel work not connected to the main storyline.
