Short Circuit is an experimental animated short film initiative proposed by Walt Disney Animation Studios. According to Disney's official statement, "Anyone within Walt Disney Animation Studios can pitch their ideas, and these ideas have the opportunity to be developed into original animated shorts with the studio's support. The goal of this initiative is to boldly innovate in both visuals and storytelling, provide emerging talents with a platform to showcase their abilities, and conduct experimental technological innovations."
In summary, the core of Short Circuit is to break new ground. This "newness" is mainly reflected in two aspects—discovering new talents and utilizing new technologies. As for innovation in visuals and storytelling, with new talents and new technologies in place, it naturally follows.
The project was established in 2016, with Disney producing 20 works in one go.
Disney Animation's official Twitter announced Short Circuit on May 16, though according to foreign media reports, this initiative actually began as early as 2016. The first work released under this initiative is "Cycles," produced by Jeff Gipson.
