"Treasure Island" (Russian: Остров Сокровищ, romanized: Ostrov Sokrovishch) is a Soviet Ukrainian live-action/animated adventure comedy television film, adapted from Robert Louis Stevenson's novel "Treasure Island" (1883). The film was produced by the Kyiv Film Studio between 1986 and 1988. It primarily uses traditional animation and includes some live-action segments, which are largely independent but not entirely separate.
The first part, "Captain Flint's Map," was released in 1986, and the second part, "Captain Flint's Treasure," was released in 1988. The two films are often screened together. The film won the Grand Prix at the 1987 Minsk Film Festival, the Grand Prix at the 1989 Kyiv Film Festival, and first prize at the International Television Film Festival in Czechoslovakia.
Between 1989 and 1992, a re-edited American version titled "Return to Treasure Island" was released on VHS. The live-action segments were removed, making it 34 minutes shorter than the Soviet version. The film was dubbed by Jan Rabson and Steve Blum.
