The young boy Maki and his family are kidnapped by hunters and taken as slaves to be sold in France. Seizing the opportunity while the hunters are asleep, Maki secretly breaks free from his handcuffs and begins his escape. Along the way, he encounters the giraffe "Zarafa." Unfortunately, the hunters follow their tracks and catch up, killing Zarafa's mother. Maki promises Zarafa's mother that he will take good care of her. In this critical moment, Prince Hanson of the desert steps forward, driving the hunters away. Hanson takes Zarafa, intending to return to his own kingdom, and Maki, keeping his promise, follows Hanson all the way. After returning to the kingdom, Hanson is ordered to bring Zarafa to France and present her to the King of France, in hopes of securing military aid. They depart from the port in a hot air balloon, traveling through the Alps and Marseille to reach Paris. The journey is fraught with hardships. Can Maki bring Zarafa back to Africa? Will the King of France send troops to their aid...
