An anime film by Nankai Nakayama, a film director who worked on numerous period dramas for Nikkatsu and was also active as an actor. According to the credits, Nakayama himself was responsible not only for the script and direction but also for the animation (cinematography was handled by Masatomo Deguchi, a live-action film cameraman). Notably, this was the only anime film Nakayama ever worked on. The story follows a lazy ronin, Shishitobi Matsunosuke, who falls into hell through an old well, is lectured by King Enma, and resolves to excel in both literary and martial arts. Eventually, after learning ninjutsu from the immortal Donkū, Matsunosuke gains fame by assisting in exorcising demons and aiding in vendettas.
