A period anime film created in 1928 by Shinsaburo Tago, an eccentric talent from the dawn of Japanese animation. Danzaburo, the son of a peasant, sets out on a journey of martial training to rise through the ranks of samurai society. Upon learning that a princess in a certain castle is in dire straits, he sees an opportunity to make a name for himself. Danzaburo skillfully promotes his own heroic reputation to a lady-in-waiting connected to the princess. However, the castle in question is the infamous Yoshida Palace, rumored to be haunted by monsters and shape-shifters. Overcome with fear, Danzaburo attempts to flee. The story is adapted from the Western tale of "Don Quixote," and the protagonist, Danzaburo, also appears in Tago's earlier work, "The Bandits of Maguda Castle" (1926). In this film, he appears as a character with a different setting—a form of the so-called star system.
