The director of this film, Ladislas Starevich, is one of the few great animators in the world worthy of admiration and praise. He has always been dedicated to stop-motion animation and has produced many artistic and widely popular animated films. Ladislas Starevich began his animation career in Russia in 1909, but soon moved to France, where he reached the peak of his animation career until 1950, creating countless classic animated films there.
"Les Contes de l'horloge magique" is a representative stop-motion animated feature film directed by Ladislas Starevich in the 1920s. This work includes three stories: "The Little Street Singer," "The Tin Soldier," and "The Magic Clock." It was completed between 1924 and 1928 by Ladislas Starevich and his daughter, Irène.
This film has two versions: one is a 45-minute black-and-white version, and the other is a 65-minute newly restored color version on DVD5, released in 2003 by French director Jean Rubak.
