In a city neighborhood of traditional courtyard houses, though surrounded by modern high-rises, the people living among the blue bricks, green tiles, and tree-shaded courtyards still enjoy this rare sense of ease. Here reside the knowledgeable old Chinese medicine practitioner, Grandpa Hua; the precious gourd boy who has been learning traditional Chinese medicine and wellness knowledge by his side; the honest Grandpa Hu; the lovely Grandma Hu; the mischievous Gang Ben'er; and the somewhat feisty Xiao Xia, among others. With their distinct personalities, much like the neighbors and friends we encounter in daily life, many captivating and amusing stories unfold around them, centered on common knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine.
Each episode of this series incorporates theories of Chinese medicine, ranging from "the unity of heaven and humanity, yin and yang, and the five elements" to practical applications like "cupping and massage"; from the use of Chinese medicinal herbs to introductions of famous ancient Chinese physicians. In the later part of the story, renowned medical masters such as Zhang Zhongjing and Li Shizhen will reappear, inevitably sparking endless interactions with the modern-day characters. These elements are all connected through the image of the "precious gourd," making the entire series lively and lighthearted—a key aspect of the show's entertainment value. Through these stories, the precious gourd learns much about Chinese medicine from Grandpa Hua, helping it comprehend, evolve, and ultimately become the Dingdang Precious Gourd.
