In the heart of the azure sea stands a small island teeming with deadly perils. It is inhabited by fierce beasts such as tigers, lions, and venomous snakes, as well as monstrous creatures of immense strength and cruelty, like the two-headed giant. Yet, more formidable than any of them is the legendary sailor Sindbad (voiced by Gus Wickie), who has traveled the world without ever meeting his match. He resides in a castle at the center of the island, with a lion that roars like thunder serving as his guard dog. Each day, he proudly sings praises of his own exploits, lost in self-admiration. One day, a ship appears on the horizon, carrying the brave sailor Popeye (voiced by Jack Mercer), the beautiful girl Olive Oyl (voiced by Mae Questel), and the gluttonous Wimpy (voiced by Lou Fleischer). Sindbad, captivated by Olive's beauty, orders a monstrous bird to wreck the ship and seize the maiden. Thus begins the epic clash between two mighty sailors... This film is the first of Popeye's three special color editions, with the other two being "Ali Baba" and "Aladdin."
