In the morning of a modern metropolis, on a certain roadside, a worker is operating a drilling device, the rumbling noise shattering the tranquility of the early hours. Inside an office building across the street, a white-collar worker closes the window with some annoyance. On the sidewalk below, a man hurries along. As he passes behind the drilling worker, he trips over a floor tile that has been loosened and raised by the vibrations of the machinery. The worker pays no attention to what happens behind him, and the fallen man, accepting his bad luck, gets up and continues on his way. This scene is accidentally witnessed by the same white-collar worker from earlier, who stops at the window with interest and calls his colleagues to watch. In the following moments, many men and women passing by inadvertently trip and fall, with even a foraging bird getting trapped under a loosened tile. Meanwhile, the windows of the office building facing the street become almost entirely filled with onlookers.
They are not taking pleasure in others' misfortune and even feel sympathy for those who fall, yet it all seems to lack something...
